• The latest around here – Fireplace Remodel

While we finished un-packing shortly after we moved into our house, we are now finally settling in to our new place. I may think I know where I want things in a new house, until I start to actually live there.  Then I tend to move things around until I find the place where they will work best. While most things stay pretty much in the same place, some things do change. One of those things was our Dining room. I had planned on putting the large dining room table that we were in the process of building in the formal dining room. Leaving us our smaller white round…

  • Basement Remodel- The Before and After

After so many long hours of working month after month, I am so excited to share with you that our basement remodel is complete! This was just a side project that was getting completed on top of normal day life. So an hour or two a night was all we had to work on it. When I say we I mean my Husband. He did 95% of the work. The other 4% was done by some of his buddies and my dad. I did about 1% of the work. I designed and then did some partial painting. I really don’t know how I got such a light work load on…

  • Basement Remodel – The Latest

The basement remodel project has made some progress. Well it has been making progress for a while now but none of it was big visible things. Running the electrical back to the breaker box, or getting the outlets all wired are not very photo worthy. They are just the big behind the scenes things that need to get done so that we can continue on with our project. You know what is exctiting! The Drywall is almost complete! Sorry the picture is a little blurry. For some reason he didn’t want to stop working and pose for a picture. I say almost complete because we still have to tape and…

  • Little Explorer Boys Room | One Room Challenge Fall 2016: Week 4

Welcome back to week 4 of the One Room Challenge! If you are joining me for the first time, Hello and Welcome! My name is Jaclyn. My family recently moved into a new (to us) house in January of this year. Here on my blog I share all of my remodel, DIY, and home decor projects that I do on a budget. I am currently working on a little explorer boys bedroom for the challenge. This week I tackled one of my big projects on my to do list. Paint the accent wall. I have to admit this aspect of the room was easy to design and visualize in my…

  • Basement Remodel

Tad was gone all of last week in Minnesota, while the kids and I stayed home in Michigan. For me, the days were long and busy. Made even more busy by the fact that our dishwasher decided to stop working the day that Tad left. So all week long I was washing every dish by hand, making my evenings a bit longer. I have come to the conclusion that we use far to many dishes in a day and we need to work on that. I did notice that I had less laundry to do when Tad was gone, so that was helpful at least. The dishwasher also decided to…

  • Coastal Bathroom Reveal

This last week was a rough one for our family. It started out great. We had a great Mother’s Day with family and a fun trip to the Detroit Zoo. On our drive home our Little Miss got sick and had some respiratory distress and ended up in the Emergency Room and then was admitted to the Hospital for a couple of days. The last several days we have been in the hospital and working on getting her better. She is much better today and will be discharged shortly. Now that we are home I am able to share my pictures of our bathroom for the One Room Challenge with you.…

  • One Room Challenge Week 5 | Bathroom Progress | Spring 2016

Welcome to Week 5 of the One Room Challenge!     This week was a tough week for getting things accomplished in bathroom. First off the weather was so nice that it was hard to stay inside and work. There have not been a whole lot of nice days here in Michigan yet so I wanted to take advantage of them. I am glad that we did because it got cold and gloomy after those few days. Our watch dog Alby keeps and eye out while she scoops the dirt and he eats it. Kids seem to always be able to find the smallest patch of exposed dirt in the yard.…

  • One Room Challenge Week 4 | Bathroom Progress | Spring 2016

Welcome to Week 4 of the One Room Challenge. The coastal kids bathroom remodel is coming together nicely. I have made some great progress this week. I made a slight change to the design. My original plan was to paint the walls a beautiful light gray color, Titanium by Benjamin Moore to be exact. However once I had painted the walls with the primer I was really loving crisp white feel. I went with Dove White By Glidden which is the color of the trim. For these bathroom walls I decided to do the paint in a flat tone. I feel like the flat tone goes with my design and I am not a…

  • One Room Challenge Week 3 | How to Fill Baseboard Gaps

Welcome back to week 3 of the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling It Home. If you are new you can check out Week 1 HERE and Week 2 HERE.   When I was priming the baseboards in the kid’s bathroom I came across a problem. As I painted I noticed these huge gaps between the wall and the baseboards. The gaps became more pronounced as I primed the walls as well. Not cool.     It wasn’t a matter of nailing the boards to the wall. I tried wiggling them to see if they were loose, but they were securely nailed to the wall. I wasn’t quite sure what to do about the space. Luckily…

  • One Room Challenge Week 2 | Bathroom Progress | Spring 2016

Our Coastal bathroom remodel is moving along. I am glad this One Room Challenge  is over a time of a few weeks because having a toddler and a speed crawling baby makes it challenging to do most remodel work during the day. The Toddler can not be left unattended or else she decides to help herself to her own snacks, like half a pan of brownies.  How do you like my 90’s green counter tops by the way? That’s another project for another day or perhaps another year. Stick around to find out! The speed crawling baby is also becoming a bit of a dare devil and must be watched every moment of the…
