Do you ever go on vacation and need another vacation to recover?! That’s how our vacation to South Dakota over the beginning of July had me feeling. The vacation was a blast, but after a week of non stop go and late nights and lots of sunshine and I needed a few days to re-coup.
Now that we are back home I took down all my patriotic decor (sadly) and put out some summer decor.
I realized that I never shared my living room decorated for the 4th of July on here so here is a peek at what it looked like before I took it all down. It was simple but I loved the way that it turned out!
Now we are in the full swing of summer time and we are all about the beach! We love to be in the sunshine and swim, collect shells and rocks and build sand castles and I wanted to reflect that in my summer decor.
One of the first things I did was to swap out my dollar chairs with these wicker ones that I had in my sunroom. While I really love my dollar chairs…. I mean they were only a dollar each…. the wicker was more fitting for the summer beach feel.
The mantel is a mix of old and new plus few DIY’s. Which is exactly my kind of style.
The mirror was a thrifted find that I sanded down to match the other wood tones in the room better. I really love how big the mirror is and its unique shape. I think it was a mirror that once was apart of a vintage dresser and that bad boy is really heavy! I am surprised I was able to not only carry it in from the next room, but lift it up above my head and onto the mantel!
I will definitely be getting my husbands help to take it down when the time comes!
I love this side of the mantel because it has our collection of driftwood from Lake Michigan from when we lived in Traverse City. The kids and I had a lot of fun collection the driftwood over several trips to the beach and those are memories that I will always cherish.
On the other side of the mantel sits my only family picture in my house currently! haha.
I love to take pictures and I take a million of them… ask any of my family members… But I am so bad about putting them up around my house!
The picture is an oldie but a goodie! Its from the summer before we got married.
The framed coral art was a super easy DIY craft.
I want to say that it took me a few minutes to make this art work but it took much less time then that! I made a few different versions in a matter of minutes and finally settled on this version.
I feel like it has a bit of a Lilly Pulitzer texture to it!
The stencil was so easy to work with, has a nice thickness to it which made working in the small corners easy because the stencil didn’t move or bend when I was working with it.
This was the first time working with water color paints and I really loved it! I plan on playing around with water color paints more in the future!
I still don’t have the baseboards in the living room installed yet. In fact I haven’t even bought new ones to install yet. This summer has just been to busy!
This vintage seascape picture I recently scored at a garage sale and this wooden frame I had in my decor stash was a perfect fit for it.
I would love to eventually be able to create a gallery wall of seascape art prints one day. They are so pretty to me!
And of course my vintage fan collection had to make an appearance in my summer decor! There is no better way to beat the heat then with a vintage fan collection. Ok well maybe a day at the beach but the fan collection is fun to look at!
I have a DIY project planned to fill up this space above my couch in the living room coming soon!
Looking for some cute throw pillows for your home?
I hope you are enjoying your summer and getting plenty of beach days in!!!
