I got lucky and had a beautiful sunny Minnesota day shortly after I finished decorating the living room. Sadly the sun has not been seen since. Welcome to winter in Minnesota. I am glad that I was able to capture all of these pictures because I really love the way our living room looks this year.

It was a first of many things this year. My first year using fresh garlands, and I will not be going back! They make the room smell heavenly! We don’t do a real Christmas tree, so we have never had the smell of fresh pine in our house for Christmas.

It was also the first year that I did a themed tree. We have only ever had one Christmas tree in our home and it was our family tree full of our special ornaments that we have collected over the years. You can find out all the details about my Rustic Ski Lodge themed Christmas Tree here. It is included in a great round up of 40 other Christmas trees in the first ever Christmas Tree Decor blog hop.

This years Rustic Ski Lodge Christmas Decor was inspired by this adorable pillow that I found at T.J.Maxx. It is backed in an adorable green and blue plaid fabric. Maybe its the season or the fact that I have been reading this book series– non stop – But I loved the dark green plaid and decided to center my living room decor around it.

Dark green, wood tones, small pops of red and blue, skiing, and cozy cabins in a winter scene sounded like the perfect Christmas decor for our first Christmas in our new place.

The typewriter that normally sits on this table got packed away for this holiday season. Gotta switch it up a bit every now and then. I will be bringing it back after Christmas is over and I switch things around again.

Originally I had the number candles that I picked up from Ikea on this table, but then I realized that I only had one set and would not be able to use them as a count down to Christmas like I had planned. The pillar candle holders are from Ikea as well, I simply flipped them over to use them for the pillar candles. Ikea has so many cute farmhouse style goodies. You can read all about them in my list of 20+ Farmhouse items from Ikea here.

I searched all over the the perfect neutral toned plaid pillows to go with my Ski lodge pillow and found these Retro Grid Pillowcases, in Gray that you see in the basket next to the table. They were a great price too! If you are on the hunt for some perfect throw pillows to cozy up your space, check out my Ultimate Guide to Farmhouse Pillows.

The fireplace is draped in a fresh garland that I picked up from Costco. It was actually twice this long so I ended up cutting it in half and using the other half in the sunroom Christmas decor.

The stockings were another T.J.Maxx find. They add the perfect cozy feel to this Rustic Ski Lodge Christmas decor theme.

I picked up some extra bunches of greenery from Home Depot to fill these vintage galvanized buckets that sit on the hearth of the fireplace. Black lanterns filled with candles cozy up next to them.

The Hearth and Hand line at Target matched my Rustic Ski Lodge theme perfectly! I picked up the Embroidered throw blanket and absolutely love it! I am pretty sure that it will just keep getting softer the more that I wash it!

On the other side of the room I have my little ski lodge village that sits under a bough of greenery and stars.

I painted the this dresser black, but I think I may repaint it to the same color black that I used on my fireplace makeover.

The little white houses are from the Target Dollar spot, Both from last year and this year as well.

I really love the simplicity of the wooden bead garland mixed in with the pine garland! This will be something that I will keep up all winter long! Just like my Cookie Cutter Garland  that I have hanging on my dining room fireplace. Simple neutral pieces that add so much to the decor.

The star garland was a DIY project. The white stars are ornaments that I found at a local craft store and I strung them on some jute string to match the string that was on them.
