A Coastal Farmhouse Dining Room for Summer

I know so many people are ready for fall decorating once August 1st arrives. Normally I am one of those people, but this year I am holding onto Summer just a little bit longer. Maybe it is because I have a new baby and don’t want to wish time away so quickly right now. Plus I haven’t gotten around to sharing my Coastal Farmhouse dining room with you and I just can’t let summer wrap up without sharing it, because I love it! I also have a few tips on how to add Coastal Farmhouse decor look on a budget!

I am pretty sure that I say this every season, but I love the way my dining room hutch came together for my Coastal Farmhouse look this year! This is the first time I have decorated my dining room in a Coastal Farmhouse look and it is dreamy! I knew that having a baby due in the middle of summer that I wasn’t going to get to switch my decor around as much as normal so I opted to go with a dining room look that could last all summer long.

Normally I am ready to switch things around after a little bit but I never got tired of this summer coastal farmhouse look in my dining room. I just love the mix of blues and greens with the natural sea coral and sea shells and the chippy white farmhouse pieces.

I found a few items at the dollar store that I incorporated into my coastal farmhouse decor. Who would have thought that the dollar store would have things that would fit in with my coastal farmhouse summer decor?! I also added in some DIY projects, Target dollar spot items and of course some thrifted finds which made decorating my dining room for summer very affordable!

The first dollar store find were these gorgeous sea shells! I found all three types in the vase filler section. I wanted to be able to show them off so I used some clear glass containers that I had in my decor stash. The two smaller containers were candles at one time and I just cleaned them out and upcyled them. I paired the sea shells with one of my DIY chippy white farmhouse candlesticks. – They are so easy to make and can be used for more then just candles!

I also added some of the sea shells to my dining room hutch. I bought this little sea shell holder from the Target dollar spot because I thought that it was so cute! I would love to eventually put some sea shells in there that the kids and I collect, but that means that we need to take a vacation to the ocean. The only shells around here are the snail shells at the beach and those just aren’t as pretty. For now the mini sea shells from the dollar store are the perfect size to fit in there.

I also bought that little sail boat from the Target dollar spot this year. I think it is so simple and cute and goes perfectly with my coastal farmhouse decor. One of my new thrifted finds was this piece of real sea coral. I was so surprised to find something like that here in Minnesota! I absolutely love the organic beauty of the sea coral. It is a little broken in some places but it really adds a special touch to my summer decor.

Another surprising dollar store find was this sea glass. Again I found it in the vase filler section at the dollar store. It came with some royal blue glass pieces as well and I picked out most of them because they were so bold and bright. I just wanted the soft colors of the different greens and white.

The vintage canning jar I got as a gift from my grandma and I love using it to display different things. In fact my grandma gave me all but one of my turquoise canning jars as well. I think they really help tie together my summer coastal and farmhouse decor style in my dining room.

I decorated the space between my hutch and fireplace with a tall bushel basket filled with some bright greenery and fish netting. I added my DIY Beach Hut Pillow to the top of the basket with the cute coastal town sign that I found in the target dollar spot. I finished off this little corner vignette with a rusty scale added to the front of the basket.

On the other side of my hutch I added this glass hurricane lantern with a candle and some sand that I found at the dollar store! I found the sand in the – you guessed it – Vase filler section in the dollar store. Maybe that is what I should have titled this blog post as – Three things that can be found in the dollar store vase filler section to add to your coastal farmhouse decor for cheap!

I also added some sand and a candle to some glass rope jars that I picked up from the Target dollar section. I never did get to styling my entire table for summer this year. I was only able to create my summer table centerpiece.

To create this look I first layered two table runners. One shorter one and one longer one. Then I placed my dough bowl in the center and added some rope jars with some sand and a candle to each end of the dough bowl. Then I filled the dough bowl with some coastal decor goodies – White sea coral, two different types of starfish – that I found at Walmart, A glass sea float, wooden boat pulley, some rope and a glass bottle.

I also had this skinny greenery that kind of reminded me of seaweed so I threw that in there as well. There you have it! A simple coastal farmhouse centerpiece for your summer dining room table!

Now just picture the table finished with galvanized chargers, white plates and navy napkins – Wouldn’t that be so cute?! Well there is always next summer!
