Quick and Easy Christmas Sign
This is the first Christmas that we are celebrating in this house. It is also the first time that I have had a mantel to decorate for Christmas. In our old house we used a medium sized bookshelf to hang our stockings off of, which was actually really cute. So I didn’t really have any big item to put on our mantel and I really wanted a big grab your eye sign to fill the mantel. I needed something that was also going to fit in my budget. I came up with this Christmas sign, not only is it quick and easy – taking less then 5 minutes to put together- but it only cost $8!
Here are the things that you will need to make your DIY Christmas Sign.
- large thin wood board – Mine is 2’x4′ I got it from Home Depot – $5
- Chalk paint – I used Deco Art’s Americana Decor in Lace
- paint brush
- Merry Christmas banner sign from Target Dollar Spot – $3
- hot glue gun and glue
For my sign I white wash my board with chalk paint.
To achieve this look you will need to slightly dip the end of your paint brush into the paint, then wipe off as much as you can. You want your paint brush to still have a dry look to it. You can use the edge of the paint jar or a paper towel to wipe off the excess paint. Take the brush and brush in one direction on your board. If you get too much paint on your brush you will end up with large white spots.
One reason that I love to use chalk paint is that it dries so quickly! Especially when you do a dry brush white wash. By the time I finished dry brushing my board was mostly dry.
Take your Christmas banner and string it together. Before you start, plug in your glue gun, or else you will be waiting around while it heats up.
I ran the string in through the front and then up through the back on each letter.
Align your letters so that they are centered on the board and lay the banner strings out to the edge of the board.
To create a swooping look to the letters lay the banner string a little above the words.
Take the banners string and tuck it around the back of the board and glue it in place. Cut off any extra string.
Place your sign in the desired place and decorate around it.
Target Dollar Spot is one of my favorite places to pick up cute cheap seasonal decor!
Do you shop the Target Dollar spot?
