Little Explorer Boys Room | One Room Challenge Fall 2016: Week 1
Today I am beginning a new project: A Little Explorer themed Boys Bedroom, and I only have 6 weeks to pull it off! You might be wondering why 6 week, well I am once again participating in the Once Room Challenge hosted by Calling it Home as a guest participant. I really enjoyed working on the Kids Coastal Bathroom for the Spring 2016 One Room Challenge that I decided to join in the fun again.

You see each fall and spring the One Room Challenge is held and twenty design bloggers take the challenge and transform a space. Every Wednesday, the designers share their progress and every Thursday the Guest Participants share their progress during the six weeks. If you want to join all you have to do is link up your project progress each week HERE.If you are new to my blog, Hello and Welcome! My name is Jaclyn, I live in Traverse City Michigan with my husband Tad, our two kids Arianna and Ryder, and our two dogs, Alby and Rogan. You can learn a little bit more about me on my About Me page on my blog.
Now onto the space: A little Explorer themed bedroom
Lets take a look at the space I am going to be working with.
There is not much to this space. The two of the walls are white and two of the walls are blue and of course there is lots of 90’s oak.
Ryder’s room doesn’t have a lot of things in it. It currently holds a pack n play and the crib mattress that is laying on the floor and used mostly for jumping on. The crib mattress is on the floor because we never set up the crib, partially because we lost the screws when we moved, and for the fact that he has always slept in our bed. Now that Ryder is 15 months old we are transitioning him to sleep in his own bed. Which means he actually needs one and a room to go with it!
Now onto the inspiration: A Little Explorer themed Bedroom
In picking the theme I based it off of Ryder and what he enjoys. Ever since he was a baby he has enjoyed the outdoors. If he was ever crying I would just need to place him in front of the glass door so that he could see outside and he would stop crying almost instantly. He has always enjoyed looking at the trees and animals and exploring the great outdoors.

Why not just call it a room for An Adventurous Child? A little girl would love this room, too, just as it is — no stereotypical splashes of pink needed. We need to encourage all of our children to dream big and to be adventurous — equally.

Hi Kit!
This room could very well be used as a design for a girls room! Many people have mentioned that same thing that their girls would love this room as well. I called it a Little Explorer Boys room simply because I was designing it for my son. I am getting ready to work on my daughters room and her room will also have its own encouragement to be adventurous that fits with her theme . Thanks for checking out my post!
Have a great day!

Oh my goodness, I love the little explorer theme bedroom ideas!! I don’t have boys but I’d add a few pink touches here and there and this would be lovely for my girls room as well! I’m sure your boys room will turn out beautifully!

That’s a great idea Katrin! This could easily be converted to a girl themed room! Thank you for the encouragement!

This is going to be the perfect room for your little explorer. Love the greens and grays. And all of the artistic details will make it a room worthy of your little boy.

I love all your inspiration! If I had a boy this is just the style I would go with.

Thank you Katy! I love this style for a little boy! I am not a “cartoon character” person when it comes to my kids. Thanks for reading!

I just love the plan you have come up with! The colours you have chosen work so well together! I think they are great because they would work well for a young toddler and a boy and even a teenager! Love it!!!

Thanks Kari, I never even really thought about it being so transitional but it will really be able to grow with him. That makes it even better!

I love it! It’s so fun to see several “explorer” rooms but they all look totally different! I can’t wait to see how yours turns out !!
