• DIY Ribbon Flag

We just celebrated Memorial Day and 4th of July will be here before you know it. This DIY Ribbon Flag is the perfect decor to add to your patriotic decor! It is a quick easy project it takes less then 10 minutes and it lets you use your own creativity.   DIY Ribbon Flag Supplies I know this is called a ribbon flag, but I didn’t actually use any ribbon in my flag at all. For the size flag that I wanted, Ribbon would have been quite pricey. If you are going to make a smaller version of this flag you could use ribbon without it costing a lot. Fabric…

  • DIY Capiz Chandelier – ORC Week 4

Welcome back! There are just two week left of this One Room Challenge can you believe it! I have been so busy that these weeks have been flying by. I will be cutting it a little close with getting things finished up, but fingers crossed that we get it all completed in time! I have been working on finding a light fixture for my Under the Sea Mermaid room. The light fixture that was already in the room was one of those “Boob Lights“, you know the ones I am talking about! I really love the look of the Capiz Chandeliers to go with my room. I think that they…

  • DIY Side Table

One of my goals for this year was to build more things for our home. I was able to make a check mark next to that goal once I completed my side table in my  Dining room makeover. I am not a builder by any means. This was my first project of this magnitude. The only other thing that I have built was my Farmhouse Signs. If you are thinking that you can’t make this table, let me tell you that you can! I have already done the work to figure out how to build it and what will work and what will not work! The inspiration for my table…

  • Under the Sea Table Makeover

The planning and designing for my daughters room is finally underway. The theme for her room is going to be a mermaid, under the sea theme. She loves mermaids and is so excited to get her room all put together. When Deco Art approached me about trying out their Metallics line of paint I knew it was going to be just what I needed to get started on her room! You can now find the Metallics line of Deco Art paint at your nearest Hobby Lobby! Yet another reason to shop at Hobby Lobby! After looking through the different shades of metallic paint I decided on Pearl. I had a hard…

  • How to Make Farmhouse Candlesticks

Do you ever have an idea that just comes out of no where and you ask yourself, “How have I never thought of this before?!” That happened to me the other day when I was browsing though a thrift store. I was half paying attention to the items in front of me, half keeping one kid happy and occupied in the shopping cart, while partially making sure that they don’t break anything and half keeping an eye on the other kid, who was insisting we go back to the toy aisle. I know that’s to many halves, but that is how motherhood goes. You know what I am talking about. While…

  • A My Little Pony Birthday

Ever since we moved to Traverse City last year, Arianna asked on a regular basis if she could go to the ‘Wolf Hotel’ or what most people call, The Great Wolf Lodge. If you are not familiar with The Great Wolf Lodge, it is a large resort hotel that has a massive indoor water park that is exclusive to guest of the hotel. It also has lots of other fun activities for both kids and adults with 5 pin bowling, an arcade, spa, children’s spa, ice cream shop, restaurants, and story time, to name a few. Last year Arianna and I made the plan that we would go to the Great Wolf Lodge for…

  • DIY: Mercury Glass Ornaments

Mercury glass is one of my favorite items to put out during Christmas time. I just love the look of it mixed in with the winter pines. I came up with my version of mercury glass ornaments one of the first Christmases that we were married. I didn’t have a big budget for buying Christmas decorations so buying mercury glass ornaments at $4-$5 each was not going to work for me. I had tried the water and vinegar with spray paint method and didn’t love the look of it. I figured out a different method that was much faster and more of a look that I was looking for. DIY…

  • DIY Button Garland for the Christmas Tree

When I was growing up my mom would make a popcorn garland to go on our tree. When I was old enough I would help her make it. I can still remember how much it hurt my fingers to push that needle through some of the tougher popcorn pieces. One year we tried to save the popcorn garland. We put it in Tupperware, but a mouse got into it and ate the popcorn.   It was a long process stringing all of the popcorn, but the end result was worth it. I really liked how the white of the popcorn went with the red cranberry garland and the green of the Christmas…

  • Quick and Easy Christmas Sign

This is the first Christmas that we are celebrating in this house. It is also the first time that I have had a mantel to decorate for Christmas. In our old house we used a medium sized bookshelf to hang our stockings off of, which was actually really cute. So I didn’t really have any big item to put on our mantel and I really wanted a big grab your eye sign to fill the mantel. I needed something that was also going to fit in my budget. I came up with this Christmas sign, not only is it quick and easy – taking less then 5 minutes to put together-…

  • DIY: Faux Birch Sticks

Do you love the look of birch in holiday decorations? I sure do! Unfortunately there are no birch trees any where near my house that I could borrow from to add to my decorations. Buying birch logs at the the craft stores can get a bit pricey. So I was excited when I found this Embossed Birch Gift Wrap! I knew that I could make my own DIY faux birch sticks.   Here are the Supplies that you will need to make the Faux Birch sticks. Birch Embossed Gift Wrap sticks of varying sizes glue paint brush   Take your stick and place it on top of the inside of the wrapping paper.…
